Cleveland Institute of Electronics (CIE) was approved by
the U.S. Department of Education to be one of the first distance
learning institutions accredited by the Distance Education
and Training Council to provide federal financial aid to its
students for the Associate Degree programs.
Types of Aid
CIE students who are eligible for federal financial aid may
receive assistance in the form of a grant or loan.
1. Pell Grant
A Pell Grant is a grant that does not have to be repaid
by the student. The Federal Pell Grant is based on financial
need and is awarded to “exceptional need” students as defined
by federal regulations. Any student wishing to receive a Federal
Pell Grant at CIE must meet the eligibility requirements established
by the U.S. Department of Education.
2. Federal Student Loans
CIE participates in the Federal Stafford Loan Program.
An eligible student may receive funds to pay for his/her education
under the Federal Stafford Loan Program.
Depending on the student's eligiblity, there are three different
repayment options:
A. Interest and Principal
B. Interest Only - while in school
C. Deferral of Interest and Principal
How do I apply for Federal Financial Aid?
To apply for Federal Financial Aid, you must fill out the
Free Application
for Federal Student Aid first.
The Federal School Code for Cleveland Institute of Electronics
is 015382.
The application process is faster if you use your PIN to sign
your application electronically. If you have a valid e-mail
address, you should consider applying
for your PIN, as it will speed up your application process.
It takes 1-3 days to get a PIN electronically as opposed
to the 7-10 days it would take a signature page to be received
and processed through the mail.
You can use the same PIN throughout your school years for
signing your FAFSA application from one year to the next.
After you are assigned a PIN and finish the FAFSA application, you'll need to complete an online entrance counseling session before receiving your student loan.
This quick and easy interactive counseling session is a tutorial that provides useful tips to help you develop a budget for managing your educational expenses and helps you to understand your loan responsibilities.
The counseling session will take about 20-30 minutes to complete and you will need to take a short quiz at the end.
Once you pass the quiz you can log in and select the schools to be notified that you completed the entrance counseling session.
